History
2018 – Barracudas Established
Hathaway Brown School founded the Blazing Barracudas Swim Club to extend the school’s mission of nurturing mind, body, and spirit through athletics. Created to provide student-athletes and community members with a competitive yet joyful environment, the program emphasizes the core values of the Blazer Covenant: character, excellence, perseverance, sportsmanship, and teamwork. By the 2019–2020 season, the club opened registration with 137 swimmers, ranging from beginners to collegiate athletes.
2019 – Level 1 Club Award
In its first full year, the Blazing Barracudas earned the USA Swimming Level 1 Club Recognition Award. This distinction affirmed HB’s commitment to excellence by meeting national standards in organizational strength, parent and volunteer engagement, coach development, education, and athlete performance—all guided by the values of integrity and teamwork.
2020 – Club Development Award
At the Lake Erie Swimming Awards Banquet, the Blazing Barracudas received the Club Development Award, recognizing not only growth but also contributions to the broader swim community. Through hosting meets, active leadership in the Lake Erie LSC, and modeling sportsmanship, the Barracudas demonstrated perseverance and a spirit of service reflective of the Blazer Covenant.
2021 – Club Expansion
In 2021, the Blazing Barracudas expanded by welcoming swimmers and families from the Twinsburg Competitive Aquatics Team (TCAT). This collaboration strengthened the program, creating a deeper community of athletes united by shared values of dedication, teamwork, and excellence—hallmarks of Hathaway Brown’s athletic culture.
2024 – Continued Club Expansion
In 2024, the Blazing Barracudas expanded by welcoming swimmers, coaches, and families from Cleveland State University and Mayfield High School. This collaboration continued to strengthen the program, creating more opportunities for our athletes.
2024 - Named to USA Swimming's Club Excellence List
In 2024, Blazing Barracudas was named a Bronze Medal Club by USA Swimming. The objectives of the program are to recognize and promote:
-The development of strong, well-rounded age group and senior swimming programs that produce elite 18U athletes.
-Resources to motivate and assist USA Swimming Member Clubs to achieve the highest athlete performance ideals.
-The USA Swimming Club development system is an integral part of achieving excellence in the sport.
This ranking places Blazing Barracudas in the top 200 clubs in the country!
2025 - Named Lake Erie Swimming's Club of the Year
2025 - Named #22 Nationally in the American Swim Coaches Association Top 50 Teams (Medium Size)
2025 - Lake Erie LSC Merges with Ohio LSC
